FPS reductions might stem from hard disk issues.
I have several entries on AllKeyshop and chose CoD Black Ops III now—it’s my top choice! But there’s a strange issue: when I launch the game, the cutscenes freeze at 10 frames per second. Then joining multiplayer or playing zombies makes the FPS plummet rapidly. It seems to stabilize after about 20 minutes of play, reaching a smooth rate. Could this be related to my old HDD? Its age might be affecting performance.
Verify your temperatures and background tasks to identify any heavy processes early in the game that might drop performance, then observe if FPS improves afterward. Also, review your overclock settings to ensure they’re not set outside the default configuration.
It's conceivable that specific HDDs which shut down automatically to conserve power can lead to brief interruptions in gameplay when the engine tries to load assets from a halted drive. The system might pause until the drive resumes spinning, causing a temporary slowdown that lasts only a second. Once the drive is active again, performance should return normally. This behavior isn't typical for sustained FPS drops, suggesting the issue likely lies elsewhere.
The game may struggle to stream or collect information from the HDD when it processes more data than it can handle, or when another program accesses the HDD simultaneously. This can lead to FPS problems, especially if your RAM is fully utilized and the system has to store some data on the HDD instead of keeping it in memory.
Monitor the HDD activity log. If the frame rate decreases in line with the activity log, it suggests the HDD is likely responsible for the drop.
