FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2 has decreased recently.
Hello, I’m looking forward to your feedback on this issue. I aim to run Red Dead Redemption 2 smoothly at a minimum of 60 frames per second using the Hardware Unboxed recommended configuration (see “Red Dead Redemption 2 Optimization [Part 1] – Let’s Boost PC Performance!”). On my system, the game typically runs between 80-100 fps. I experience occasional stutters in Saint Denis, where the frame rate drops sharply every 30 to 60 seconds. Even when it stays around 80-100 fps, the drops are noticeable and cause noticeable stuttering.
To address this, I’ve tried setting a cap at 60 fps in RTSS, which is lower than the maximum drops I observed without the cap. This helps reduce the frequency of the stutters, though it still happens occasionally—usually 1-3 fps every few hours. The problem isn’t just the low frames; it’s the abruptness of those drops, which disrupts gameplay.
I’m curious if there are other ways to improve stability. Should I use NVIDIA Control Panel or RTSS for setting caps? Are there additional tweaks I can apply? Would using the NVIDIA control panel yield better results than RTSS?
Please share your thoughts on how to eliminate these stutters and what settings work best for you.
Consider using DirectX for potential improvements. Usually I adjust FPS via the control panel. Watch this video for more details.
