The game initially runs smoothly for a short time before dropping to 10fps. Various troubleshooting steps were taken, including checking system specs, updating drivers, cleaning the installation, adjusting graphics settings, disabling antivirus, and running malware scans. Despite these efforts, the issue persisted across different games like Witcher 3, Forza Horizon, PUBG, Sea of Thieves, and others. The problem appeared to be intermittent, sometimes linked to environmental factors or specific game sessions. After several attempts and a few restarts, the issue seemed resolved, though it remained unclear exactly what caused it.
Hey there,
This might be related to RAM issues. You could try running memtest86+ on a separate drive to check your memory outside Windows. With 8GB of RAM, it's quite limited today, and in many games this can lead to stuttering. If your system runs low (accounting for reserved space), you usually have only 6.5-7GB left for the game. Once that fills up, it switches to swap or virtual memory—which is much slower—and that’s what causes the lag. I recommend getting a 2 x8 GB matched RAM kit; it should fix the problem.
Sorry for the delayed response and thank you for your feedback.
Last day I dedicated to resetting the PC. It was a fresh install because I hadn't updated it in a while. Thus far, I've played Forza and Battlefield without any problems, and I'm starting with Withcer now to see what happens.
If the problem reappears, I'll try your solution since I believe my RAM might be the main issue. Back then DDR3 was nearly outdated, but DDR4 offered better speeds at a lower cost, which is why I chose the 50€ price point for all small parts.
We should hope that PC component prices fall by the end of the year so I can upgrade to better components.
