Hey Linus, here’s what I’ve noticed about my setup lately. Performance seems inconsistent, especially after upgrading to a higher resolution. I started with 1080p gaming and moved to 3440x1440. I experienced stuttering in games and the GeForce Overlay consistently hit around 65 FPS, dropping to just 8-20 FPS at the 99th percentile. That’s not ideal.
I’ve checked all the specs: CPU is Ryzen 7 3700X, RAM is 16GB G.Skill, GPU is Asus 1080Ti, OS is Samsung 980 Pro. BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. I recently swapped in an RTX 4080, which boosted FPS to 120-130, but the drop at 99th percentile remains. I also tried replacing the CPU with my wife’s Ryzen 5 5500, but it didn’t help much.
The system runs at low temps and is in performance mode, as shown by OpenHW Monitor. I’m considering upgrading RAM or CPU to fix this, though I’m not sure if it’ll make a big difference. The GPU was necessary because my light programming tasks demand more VRAM. Benchmark data is attached, but it doesn’t reflect the 99th percentile consistently. Let me know your thoughts!
Use this manual to configure logging with HWiNFO. Skip any sections about Prime95 and Furmark. Instead of stress tests, we'll run a game. If it takes longer than 10 minutes for noticeable stuttering, extend the duration. Repeat if it happens often, then run the full 10 minutes. After completion, upload the .csv file to your post.
Finished successfully. Experienced brief pauses during the 10-minute test. Resolution remains stable at 20 FPS at 99% load. borderlands3-run.CSV
Nothing unusual is being recorded. The GPU usage shows some dips, though the third one occurs while loading—likely because the disk is at full capacity, so it probably shouldn’t be counted. These drops aren’t significant, and a major performance drop would be unexpected. It could also be that the logging system isn’t updating quickly enough to capture the worst cases. Have you looked into DDU? GPU graph.
