FPS cap vs VSync?
FPS cap vs VSync?
You're exploring how VSync and Freesync interact on a 144Hz display. It sounds like you're trying to balance stability and performance. Setting an FPS cap of 142 in certain games helps prevent tearing when using Freesync, as higher frame rates can push the system beyond that limit. Considering the trade-off between smoother visuals and lower FPS, it makes sense to weigh whether the benefits of VSync outweigh the potential impact on frame consistency. If you're curious about the exact timing differences, checking your game's settings and frame rate monitoring tools could give you clearer insights.
there is no need to use v sync at all. Just use freesync. If you want in depth analyst check out Battle(non)sense YT. He has several videos regarding this this and how each one works.
I prefer not to rely on VSync, but for Freesync to function I need to limit my FPS. Capping at 144 causes stutter because the game occasionally exceeds that number with its built-in limit. I have to stick to 142 instead of 144. That means a slightly longer interval between frames. I’m curious if this delay could be higher than what VSync introduces, making it more logical to choose VSync over Freesync with a FPS cap.
vsync remains inferior. opt for freesync instead. just two frames per second won’t matter much. if you’re concerned about the low FPS, upgrade to a 240Hz display.
