I own a pre-built PC (HP Compax 8300 CMT) with an added GPU (RX 580) connected via an external PSU (PowerMax GM 500). It has a 2TB HDD, an i7 3770 CPU, and 8GB RAM. I’m experiencing Fortnite FPS drops, especially in the lobby when not actively using the mouse. The game fluctuates from 144 FPS to 14 or 20 FPS and then back up. This also occurs during gameplay, though textures sometimes fail to load occasionally. I’ve noticed GPU usage drops in MSI Afterburner as well. This issue doesn’t affect games like Apex Legends or others I play.

Hello!
When GPU usage decreases during game lag, it looks like the CPU is limiting performance. If the CPU can't process data quickly enough, the GPU gets less work and usage drops, but the game still lags.
What was your CPU usage during those moments?

It might be that the bottleneck requires an SSD.

My cpu is running at around 30 to 50% but it also happens in the lobby without playing.

I think you might want an SSD. Are there any programs that let you check the condition of your HDD?

I discovered the problem was with the hard drive. I connected an external one and installed Fortnite on Dat. It improved the game.
