Greetings!

My computer experiences significant slowdowns while playing Fortnite. Are there any issues with my hardware?
I am currently unable to improve my system’s performance due to limited funds.

Your processor is limiting your performance. It's unable to adequately support the game and struggles even when paired with an RX 580.

Your central processing unit is limiting your performance. It’s unable to adequately handle the demands of the game and struggles even against a RX 580 graphics card. Would an upgrade to an FX-8350 processor be sufficient? And could I realistically accomplish that? I’m relatively new to PC gaming and unsure how to proceed.

According to clutchc, your RX580’s performance is significantly limited by your central processing unit. However, I've observed Fortnite running on systems with modest hardware.

Could you provide more detail about “lagging badly”? Is this due to low or fluctuating frames per second (measured using FRAPS’ frame time logging tool), or is it related to lengthy loading times? What settings are you employing within the game itself? What resolution is your display set to?

Regrettably, your motherboard can only accommodate processors consuming up to 95 watts, rendering the FX-8350 unsuitable. If you aim for a performance improvement, a combined upgrade encompassing the CPU, motherboard, and RAM would likely be the most effective solution.

Would installing an FX-8350 improve things?

And can I realistically do that?

I’m a beginner with PC gaming.

As tennis2 notes, your motherboard only supports processors that draw up to 95 watts.

Here’s a list of compatible CPUs for your board. The FX-8300 or FX-8320E are likely the most suitable choices for that system. However, both should be capable of running the game with numerous other players and largely matching the performance of your RX-580.

Please specify your display’s specifications and image quality. I am configuring an Athlon x3 and HD7770 system for testing purposes. It’s surprising that you are encountering problems, considering how little demanding Fortnite is.
