Format your Win 10 regularly to keep it running smoothly and securely.
Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well! Your insights are really important to me. Many of you have a solid understanding of PC maintenance, so I'm grateful if anyone can advise me about formatting my Windows. Recently, I encountered a problem while playing games like Doom—my PC would shut down automatically when I turned it on, and I had to restart the app repeatedly. Another issue is closing the game and starting over again. I'm leaning toward formatting now, even though it's been about 7 months since my last format. Looking forward to your suggestions! (P.S. last time I did it, it felt a bit rushed.)
Best regards, Ayush
I handle mistakes during setup whenever things go wrong or performance drops. This typically happens within a year, and it's been 14 months now with plans for a fresh install. Regarding your issue, when you ask if it means the start menu appears, the lock screen shows up, or the desktop loads, which background apps are running and if notifications appear—those could also cause the game to close. If you avoid touching system files, I understand your point; however, altering the registry and tweaking Windows can quickly lead to errors.
I haven't done it in four years. My laptops have worked well for the past month and a half.
Last time I performed it was three years prior on my primary system and a few months ago on my secondary unit. It happened mainly after upgrading about 90% of its hardware. Edited on January 23, 2020 by noxdeouroboros
Others say never, at least until it works. If you face any issues, try to resolve them yourself. The Windows operating system functions quite well, so most problems likely stem from third-party software or hardware. It has built-in diagnostic tools; if you suspect something is wrong, you can always create another user account to see if the issue persists. I once had a tough problem that was difficult to pinpoint and fix, and switching users was my temporary fix. However, I don’t use Windows as most people do, so sticking with the current installation is probably the best choice for you unless you really want to install Windows and have nothing else installed.
Absolutely, that would simplify things. I just prefer the occasional fresh Windows setup for a reason.
Thank you for your interest in my section. I appreciate your patience and cooperation. During gameplay, I usually return to the desktop, where no notifications appear. In fact, I wasn’t installing or running any other applications at that time. When I try to reopen the game, it brings me back to the desktop again. This means I have to close the app and restart it.
Noxeuroboros, thank you for your interest. Perhaps it’s because you haven’t altered or modified my files. I appreciate your help, and I’ll definitely try using this diagnostic tool. Could you let me know where I can access it from?
Happy to assist @Ayush007, would you like me to suggest a quick reply in one post? You can avoid creating multiple entries for each answer. It's relevant to your topic: what applications are currently running in your taskbar? For instance, do you use any antivirus software? What programs are installed on your system, and which processes appear when you open Task Manager? If anything is unclear, just let me know and I'll explain further.
