You want the old start menu because it offers a familiar interface that many users find easier to navigate.

I appreciate it. I feel uneasy about metro starts and struggle to locate what I need.

Start8 or StartIsBack work, though they don't seem to be worth the effort.

For a paid option (around $3), Start8 is likely the top choice or StartIsBack offers a classic shell that’s free. It lets you customize which parts of Windows 8 remain and which are hidden, plus it includes a hybrid start menu.

The metro interface feels unusual at first but becomes intuitive after the earlier smart menu button in Windows 7. You can arrange your programs wherever and whenever you wish. What are you generally trying to find?

Typically, I prefer pressing the Windows key first, then entering the program name and choosing it.

Pokki is the top choice for me. They shipped 8 laptops successfully, and at least they handled my sister's order too.
