You're weighing your options carefully. Right now you have a 3700x watercooled setup with an RTX 4060 and 32GB of 3200MHz RAM. You're considering upgrading to either a 5700x3D or a 5800X. The boost in performance is around 8% on benchmarks, but you're unsure how it would fit with your current hardware and the prices you've seen—around 165€ for the 5700X3D versus 220€ for the 5800X. Since you're targeting 300 FPS in Valorant at 1080p, you'll want to ensure the new GPU can handle that without stuttering. Your monitor is 240Hz, so you'll need a GPU that matches or exceeds that for smooth gameplay. Consider your budget and whether the extra cost is justified by the performance gain in your specific use case.

And for context, the 3700x version with PBO typically caps around 250-300, seldom exceeding that. Most often it operates at 210, experiencing minor drops during intense firefights, then settling between 140 and 120.

On the AMD system, I strongly suggest using DDR5 at roughly 6000mhz, which offers substantial performance gains over DDR4. If choosing Intel, for instance with an i5 14600KF, DDR4 at 3200mhz is more than adequate since the difference won't be noticeable.

Sure, I wouldn't be interested in doing a platform upgrade. Swapping out components like Mbo, cpu, and ram would exceed my budget.

Valorant didn't really gain much from X3D; it mostly relied on better clock speeds and IPC instead.

For a limited budget, installing the X3D mod often justifies the cost. Alternatively, you can reduce graphics settings to hit your desired FPS and stretch your savings further for an AM5 upgrade, which feels more logical.

Generally, most benchmarks online indicate a 50-70 fps improvement with the x3d versus the 5800x. Still, both will offer a notable jump from the 3700x I currently own. What's interesting is that the 5700x3d has its multiplier set, while the 5800x doesn't. I'm planning to switch, but for now, I'll test the 5700x3d and see how it performs. I'll keep you posted.

Uncertain about paying 220 for something you can’t see while playing. For Valorant, I’d hold off until there’s a platform update soon. Your skill doesn’t justify the cost. Of course, my opinion.

It was necessary to treat the X3D component as a protective layer for the chip, retaining heat if left open. Ignoring warnings would lead to excessive complaints and potential damage, so they chose to lock it. The 9000 series resolved this problem and is unlocked. The X3D also improves performance at 1% lows and boosts average frame rates, resulting in smoother gameplay.
