Hello Guys, I'm still using an old i5 3750k for years and it's worked fine until now. I'm worried something might be wrong—my games, YouTube, Plex, and Android apps aren't running smoothly anymore. I can't play multiple things at once and the emulator is slowing down my PC to the point I quit after one week. I don’t know if an update caused this or if my system is just aging. I’m thinking about upgrading RAM or the motherboard. Since I haven’t built an AMD machine, should I consider an X570 board with 3200MHz RAM? Do you have any suggestions for a good motherboard and RAM? I’d prefer something under 200€, maybe with watercooling options later. There’s a deal on a Crucial Ballistix kit with a 32GB DIMM, DDR4-3200, CL16-18-18 (BLS2K16G4D32AESC) for 130€. Also, the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8x3.6GHz AM4 chip with a 65W cooler is listed at 294€ and the MSI X570 Pro Carbon Wi-Fi board at 189€. What do you think?
You just shared your update! What are your thoughts on the pricing?
Choose an ASUS or Gigabyte model instead. For example: Asus PRIME X570-P, Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE, Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS.
Avoid the carbon x570 board—it’s not worth it. Go with the x570 TUF Gaming if you can. The X570 Aorus line is solid too. A 3600Mhz CL16 setup works best for Ryzen.
If you're looking for a budget DDR4-3600 with slower timings, I'd recommend going with it, but I'd avoid anything worse than CL18 since your combined latency would drop significantly. The Infinity Fabric and memory clock perform better when they match in speed, and most DDR3600 models are reliable choices—my three Ryzen tests ran at 1:1 fclock without issues at that speed. Still, the gap between this setup and a 3200 CL16 isn't huge.
