I have an ASUS Prime 370Z and the secondary M.2 is heating up a bit. I’m considering adding thermal pads since this one doesn’t have built-in cooling like the main drive that shares it with the chipset. Do you have any suggestions? I also have some leftover aluminum finned heat sinks from another project. Would you recommend using double-sided sticky pads or should I opt for pre-made M.2 thermal pads? Also, I’m open to a thermal grizzly pad if I’m okay with the paste performance it provides for my CPU and GPU. Let me know your thoughts!
This drive is intended for audio editing and storage, not gaming. I'm handling large session files here and I've noticed performance slowing down as I progress.
I have a few small heatsinks that I can place over the controller to help dissipate heat naturally. I’ve noticed some M.2 slots perform better when slightly warmer. I’m leaning toward the all-in-one models for convenience, since it’s unclear if any are available with adhesive on both sides of the pad.
3m provides dedicated adhesive pads designed for attaching heat sinks. Should you choose not to use a nvme-specific heatsink, the alternatives remain available.
