Considering an upgrade from the 3900x, I was thinking about getting a CPU to fully utilize its potential and run on the AM4 platform for several more years. Primarily I play games, but I also want to get back into streaming. I’ve heard the 5800x3D is great for pure gaming, though it can’t be overclocked, so I’m unsure if I should switch to the 5950x for future overclocking. Any suggestions would be really helpful!

I went from 3900X to 5800X3D and it's a huge jump in performance in games. Unless you need to use CPU encoding I don't see any reason to go with 5950x.

Which GPU are you running? The 3900x performs well for gaming. In a few years, the 5800x3d could offer better value.

You own a 3090 EVGA FTW3 Ultra and can secure the 5800X3D for around $500.

I'll hold off on the Ryzen 7000X3D. It's expected to be revealed soon this month.

If funds are available for both a medium and high-end processor as well as sufficient RAM, this remains a challenging choice. I view 8/16 as essentially the lowest acceptable option.

DDR5 prices have dropped significantly, making 32GB 6000MT/s RAM priced below 200€ a reasonable deal—around 175€.

Motherboards come at a high cost. MC still has 32GB available without buying a 7000 series chipset. I’m not eager for a completely new system because I think 12 cores are the bare minimum for me, but I just got a 7700x with free RAM on Ebay.

A reasonable price around $230? It doesn’t look overly costly, but it’s also not particularly affordable.

It would still cost more than $1k for the upgrade, around $500 after selling my existing stuff. The new specs are 64GB, 7900/7950X, and MB storage, which fits within a reasonable budget. I’m okay with the current CPU speed, but I’m planning to move to an 8000x3D version later.
