I’m considering swapping out my RAM. I currently have a 5600 module, originally installed for timings. I moved from a DDR4 setup with speeds of 3600/16/18/38 MHz. Now I’m hearing that higher speeds will boost gaming performance more than timing improvements. FPS is important to me, and I’m seeing results around 4K60 in some games. I want to push everything to its limit or apply mods for better visuals. I won’t lower any settings. Are we sure faster RAM directly increases FPS? I’ve heard mixed opinions. Either way, I’m planning to upgrade to Microcenter RAM soon.
I think the system you're using matches the one listed at the top? If so, avoid the 6400MT/s package—it will hurt performance since the memory controller is likely stuck in non-1:1 mode. With Ryzen 7000 chips, the 1:1 setting caps around 6000MT/s based on the CPU; exceeding that usually drops speed. You can generally skip primary timings for DDR5, as they only matter about 1% at peak, with secondary timings being the real factor but not part of XMP. Also, RAM kits in the 5600MT/s range can hit 6000MT/s by loosening timings and boosting voltage. If you already have that type of kit, try raising the voltage to 1.3V, set the timings to 36-36-36-89 and frequency to 6000MT/s, and notice the impact. In practice, the performance gain will be minimal but match what top DDR5 kits achieve on Ryzen.
