Consider using a lightweight Linux distribution like LXQt or XFCE. These offer good performance and a smooth experience on older hardware.

I use Ubuntu on my 2-in-1 laptop from Acer. But according to Vernw3, Android seems like a smart choice, and I’d suggest Remix OS—it runs smoothly and reliably based on my tests.

You're interested in exploring Android more, especially for useful apps. To get started, you'll need to download and install the Android Emulator on your device. Then, follow the instructions to set up a virtual Android environment so you can try out apps safely.

Android x86 performance varies across different hardware setups. For a reliable experience, consider Lubuntu, Xubuntu, or Debian as a solid 2-in-1 option. Mint or Zorin would provide a more Windows-like appearance if that suits you.

I aim for a user-friendly touchscreen experience, preferring GNOME. I attempted Ubuntu 17.10 but encountered unexpected behavior—swiping up leads to the left side instead of the intended direction.

It looks like you're suggesting a few options. Windows 8.1 is quite user-friendly, and Fedora is a solid Linux alternative.
