As of May 20, 2022, Windows 11 isn't required for 12th generation systems. It's primarily recommended for newer hardware or specific use cases. Since you're mainly gaming and have some CAD/render work, you might still benefit from it depending on your needs. Let me know if you'd like more details!

Not essential, but for optimal speed and functionality you should use Windows 11 or Linux. The built-in scheduler isn't available in Windows 10, though other operating systems can still run well. If you're on Linux, make sure to install a fresh kernel with the latest Alder Lake security updates, as this feature is still emerging.

Also keep in mind that Windows 11 isn't great at all. I'm using an i7 12700K with 32GB DDR5 at 5600MHz, and I haven't faced any problems with Windows 10 Pro yet.

I'm worried about this. I'm considering just setting up Windows 10 and checking how it performs. I really don't want to move to Windows 11 yet, but I've heard it wasn't great six months ago—just not as bad now.

Choose a fresh Windows 11 setup or upgrade from Windows 10, then move to 11 for the latest features.

Never modify version 11; most issues occur there. Perform a clean installation instead.

I mainly run Linux for everyday tasks, but I occasionally switch to Windows 11 for gaming. I’ve been using Windows 11 on my 12900k build for about six months now—have you encountered any problems? A clean installation was done without upgrading from another OS.

I've been using version 11 ever since I set up the system. Upgrading my laptop to an 8th generation chip worked fine without any issues.
