Footage on dual-screen issues during gameplay
I own a 7950X and a GTX 1080. I often watch YouTube videos on my second monitor while gaming, both at 1080p. Recently, the videos have started stuttering or dropping frames. I've looked into overheating, RAM usage, and CPU load, but none of those seem to be the cause.
It seems the problem started recently with my RTX 3070 graphics card. I suspect it's related to the latest driver update, as that’s when it began. I’ve tested various web browsers—Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Edge—to confirm if it’s a browser issue. Other platforms like Netflix, Twitch, MAX, and AppleTV are still affected. If you don’t need the newest driver for a specific game, consider rolling back your drivers to resolve the issue. That’s the only step I haven’t tried yet.
I plan to test a more experienced driver. Note: The updated number is 572.60, and does this address the issue?
Current version 572.60 is functioning well; might be a recent Windows update.
I've just reached 572.6 and everything still works. I believe I updated Windows recently, though I'm not sure. Regarding your question, do you use instant replay? It hasn't been functioning properly for months now—allow desktop recording is enabled, but switching to another window resets the recording, preventing me from capturing the full duration.
On my end, YouTube videos and the game tend to lag when the video resolution is set too high. Lowering it to 360p or 480p often resolves the issue. I don’t focus on the video much—it just appears as background noise during gameplay.
I question if this applies to most users, but I’m sharing what worked for me in the hope it assists others seeking solutions. To give you an idea, my system runs an i7-13700k with a 3090Ti, using Nvidia driver 566.36 and a SteelSeries headset. Turning off the 'Moments' feature in Steelseries GG eliminated lag issues on YouTube while gaming. Hope this helps someone else.
