I checked my system and found that RAM usage stays around 24GB out of 32GB. Running antivirus scans with Bitdefender and using RAMmap didn’t clarify much. Could someone suggest ways to fix this?

Use Microsoft Defender for any updates. If you modified the page file, revert it to the default version.

The increased reliance on RAM prompted my cleanup efforts. I only added Bitdefender to get a second take from Windows Defender, which has had mixed reviews over the years—Windows Defender hasn’t always performed well, even though it’s improved since Windows 10. I haven’t adjusted the page file settings since setting up the system, and it remains at a comfortable 74GB of paged memory.

I reviewed several discussions and the main idea is that RAM should be used as Windows anticipates your actions and has files ready to start. Does this match what you're experiencing, or is the concern about the 24GB being excessive? I understand Windows 11 might already use around 10GB for itself.

I have no idea what I did during the cleanup, but after the restart it's now just 6.8Gigs.

Modern operating systems often utilize extra memory as cache for various functions. RAM remains the quickest storage option available. It seems the different components are willing to sacrifice space when necessary for performance. What bothers me is that only 24 gigabytes are actually used. It would be surprising if everything were completely consumed. There’s a common saying that adding more RAM always improves speed, which works this way. However, it might not significantly boost performance, and there’s a chance the system could run out of space even with ample RAM.

Windows often comes with unnecessary features that consume a lot of memory. It’s not uncommon for it to perform odd tasks and use up significant RAM.
