I just switched from Windows 10 to Windows 11, and now every time I right-click on a folder explorer.exe it crashes and restarts. It is really annoying. How can I fix it? Desktop 2023.09.26 - 20.34.25.01 Watch "Desktop 2023.09.26 - 20.34.25.01" on Streamable. streamable.com

Hi, sometimes adding a menu item through a third-party app causes this crash. You right-click, but it fails and Explorer stops working. Start by opening Event Viewer to look for error messages that give more details. Click on "Errors" and scroll down to find the message like "The WinZIP.dll shell extension caused a crash." Once you see that, you know the problem is with the app you added. You should uninstall it to see if things get better. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling it. If it still crashes, delete it for sure or switch to another version.

If you can't find the cause in your apps, download and run ShellExView. It will show you all the shell extensions you've installed. Turn off everything except the ones from Microsoft. Don't touch those important ones. Then check if the crash is fixed. If it is, try turning them back on one by one until you figure out which specific extension was the problem. This might lead you to an app that you can safely remove or update to fix the issue.
