Folder for SSD downloads.
Folder for SSD downloads.
I recently transferred my old SSD from the laptop into the computer, but I’m having trouble locating the downloads folder. When I navigate to user/username/, the expected location isn’t there. I’m wondering how to find it—there are some files I need to retrieve before formatting, so it’s just extra space for games. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Did you use several external hard drives? Manufacturers often set default locations such as moving the Downloads folder to a larger storage device. If your system already has a big drive available, the folder might reside there. Otherwise, look through the entire storage space for files—remembering any file names can help with searching. The location is likely in the main directory (like C:\), or within a shared user folder, though technically it could be elsewhere).
There isn't a free tool that performs a deep search like the one you mentioned.
For simple results, use the system search to look up anything across your computer. Find and download it from the link provided: https://www.voidtools.com/
Thanks! The folder is there, but I'm facing another issue. I need to claim ownership so I can access it.
Before installing the drive, have you confirmed restarting the computer to power off? Did you turn off Fast Boot and then perform a shutdown? If Fast Boot remains active, Windows will lock the drive and prevent any modifications to its files to safeguard Fast Boot functionality. You’ll need to boot from that drive, disable Fast Boot, and shut down, or restart the system (which skips Fast Boot) and halt before the BIOS splash appears.
I just completed a quick Google search and found the solution. Got the files you needed. Thanks again for your support! Problems solved, thanks!
