I have a particular setup I’d like to discuss. My motherboard is a Gigabyte B250 HD3P. The RAM slots have channel patterns (from left to right): AABB, or DDR4-4, DDR4-2, DDR4-3, DDR4-1, with 4 AND 2 as Channel A, and 3 AND 1 as Channel B. I currently have two 4GB sticks from Kingston HyperX Fury RAM installed in dual channel mode, using the DDR4-2 and DDR4-1 slots. I discovered another pair of 2x4GB sticks with the same model, specs, and revision. I understand this can be risky, but I’m considering it. My question is: should I install the new RAM in the remaining slots (DDR4-4 and DDR4-3), or should I arrange the configuration so that the old RAM stays in Channel A slots and the new one only goes into Channel B slots? Or does it really not matter? I appreciate your help and clarification. Thanks!

I own two identical sets of 2x16GB storage units, and they function properly together. It's usually advised to place the first set in slots 2 and 4, while the second set occupies the remaining positions. Either arrangement should work fine.

Use identical sticks from the same set in separate slots. Mixing RAM across channels isn't guaranteed, so clearing CMOS might resolve the issue.

It doesn't matter; ensure CMOS is cleared afterward so the board initializes memory properly (otherwise it might revert to old settings, which could cause issues)

You can apply optimized defaults directly in BIOS without clearing CMOS. Removing the battery or shorting the two CMOS pins isn’t necessary.

You need to take out the battery or short pins, as loading isn't functioning properly.

You should reset CMOS once you power on with just the new RAM sticks, and again after combining all four. This ensures the system starts with a clean setup for accurate testing.

Whenever you switch the sticks, reset the CMOS.
