I notice a pattern about the CPU shutting down when idle. I aim to reduce heat, extend its lifespan, and cut power usage. There have been reports of two different idle speeds, with most tools showing similar results—between base and boost clocks even at low usage. Yet Ryzen Master claims speeds as low as 1GHz. Based on the idle readings, I’m leaning toward Ryzen Master being inaccurate.

Ryzen Master offers detailed insight into idle cores and their activities. Other tools provide broader information and use a slower update rate of about one second versus the millisecond precision of Ryzen Master.

In my experience, Ryzen Master or HWinfo64 for core effective clock readings work well. HWinfo64 can be a bit misleading because it often displays idle cores and threads at low speeds, which isn’t ideal. It’s sufficient to compare idle versus active states, which is usually what I need. The exact idle frequency isn’t important to me.

Running several monitoring tools together can cause conflicts. Use Ryzen Master or HWiNFO instead.

It rarely bothers me unless I notice it running at 4.6Ghz, which is essentially its top speed. That makes me wonder what’s going on.
