I understand it's not ideal to run three RAM modules, but a few years ago I assembled my system with two 8GB units—it performed adequately for a short time. Now I need some extra memory for intensive tasks and don’t have the funds for two more modules. I’m opting for a 16GB module from the same brand and speed as the existing 8GB sticks. I know AMD supports Flex Mode, but my research hasn’t provided much detail beyond its basic functionality. I have several questions: Which slot should I install it in? Should I place it in A1 or B1 since the current 8GB are in A2/B2? Does it affect productivity apps like CAD or 3D work with Blender? Will Adobe applications run smoothly? Does it differentiate between background and foreground processes? For example, if a game uses dual-channel RAM and I run a browser or background app, will the slower channel impact performance? What prioritization does it use—first-come-first-served? Your specs include a Ryzen 5 5600G, MSI B450 Tomahawk, and an RTX 3060.

To the best of my understanding, the system treats dual and single channel modes equally. It automatically switches to dual channel once you insert the third stick. Performance relies on the entire RAM module being used. I’ve tested three RAM sticks in four-slot configurations before, and everything functioned properly. I haven’t compared speeds directly, but I did experiment with different capacities. My advice would be to benchmark your current RAM first, install the new sticks, and compare results. Try balancing channel capacities—like 8GB on one channel and 16GB on another—to ensure both channels work well together. Make sure the BIOS recognizes all RAM before running a test. This approach should help you gain more memory while staying within expected limits.

It will likely continue using dual channel for the two 8GB drives, then switch to single channel for the 16GB drive. If memory is tight, boosting capacity can improve performance even with only one channel. The placement of the sticks shouldn’t matter much, but keep the 8GB units in their original slots. As a Ryzen system, stability may be affected or XMP support could be limited—ensure your BIOS is current for optimal results.

It doesn't matter what, problems can arise from incorrect IC matching. Generic XMP usually brings random ICS, so sending a screenshot will help identify the best options for guaranteed XMP compatibility without any manual adjustments. Just note that your CPU supports DDR4 5000+ and the MMO is compatible, but the MSI B350/450 are very limited for 4 sticks or dual PCIe, meaning even with matched ICs, they might not work properly if you have more than 3600 XMP RAM slots.

I possess two important CT8G4DFRA32A 8GB 3200 cl22 units, but I missed them since they weren’t listed in xmp. The new device I’m purchasing is 16GB, yet I haven’t explored RAM overclocking much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this unusual configuration.
