The box claims it’s “Ryzen 9000 ready,” which usually means the system is pre-configured for that processor. That often simplifies the setup process, potentially skipping the need to flash the BIOS. However, since you’re planning to install a 9700X, double-check compatibility and ensure the BIOS version matches your motherboard. It’s a good idea to confirm before proceeding to avoid any issues.

The 9700X should function out of the box, as it was included in the first generation of 9000 series chips. Any BIOS supporting the 9000 series would naturally include it. I still suggest updating the BIOS to the newest release for general safety, though you can postpone it until your system is ready.

The only issue is that it's a B650 board, not a B850, so I'm not certain it even comes out of the box with a bios that supports ryzen 9000. I'm afraid it's just "9000 series ready" because if you update the BIOS it'll work just fine. To be safe I might just flash the bios before I start, but it should be at least 3 more days until then, so I have time to think.

These "X000 Series Ready" badges originated during the AM4 era. They indicate the board supports the BIOS for that CPU generation. This doesn't necessarily apply to later 9000 series chips such as the 9600 non-X or 9950X3D, but it definitely applies to the 9700X, which was one of the original 9000 series models.

Give it a shot, the BIOS flash is possible even with the whole PC built up.
