I wasn't sure just entering "bootrec" would help. I recall needing to run "bootrec.exe" as well, though they might both function. For me it turned out to be: bootrec.exe /fixmbr bootrec.exe /fixboot

I started from a Win7 recovery disk, entered login, and performed these actions: opened CMD, typed bootrec.exe /fixmbr, waited for the success message, exited the prompt, shut down the machine, ejected the disc, and launched the computer.

The backup isn't necessary—simply remove the Ubuntu partition and replace the MBR. I faced the same scenario before.
