Fixing High Processor and Graphics Card Consumption in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
Fixing High Processor and Graphics Card Consumption in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
My computer has a Ryzen 5 1600 processor with 16GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3200MHz, and a Radeon RX 5700 XT AE graphics card. When running the Assassin's Creed Odyssey benchmark at 1080p with maximum settings, I observe an average frame rate of 47 fps. The CPU rarely exceeded 55% utilization, while the GPU’s usage fluctuated significantly, ranging from 70% to 42%. Shouldn't the CPU and GPU be operating closer to 100% under these conditions? I’m also experiencing occasional stuttering in some games, but other titles perform perfectly. Do you believe this instability is linked to my B350 motherboard and the Radeon RX 5700 XT AE graphics card?
I plan to test the Odyssey Benchmark at its highest settings on my customized PC – a Ryzen 5 2600 with an overclocked GTX 1660 Ti – and I’ll share my frame rates, as well as the CPU and GPU utilization.
If memory serves me correctly, when I tested it at a high level, my graphics card consistently operated near 90% capacity.
When configured for Ultra mode, my processor’s usage remained between 50 and 60%, while the graphics card consistently reached 90 to 96% utilization.
What brand and model of power supply unit are you using?
Were you utilizing Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and installing the graphics card driver?
What are your CPU and GPU temperatures like during gameplay?
I plan to test the Odyssey Benchmark at its highest settings – Ultra – on my customized desktop with a Ryzen 5 2600 processor and a GTX 1660 Ti graphics card, and I’ll share my frame rates, along with CPU and GPU usage statistics.
If my memory serves me correctly, when I tested it at Very High settings, the GPU consistently operated near 90% capacity.
When running at Ultra, my CPU utilization averaged between 50 and 60%, while the GPU reached 90 to 96% usage.
I am experiencing the identical problem. I’ve communicated with XFX and they sent me a series of diagnostic procedures, which I previously attempted without success. My display is an Acer XF270H 1080P 144Hz, and when I adjust the resolution to 4K, my graphics card reaches 99% utilization in all games—resulting in significantly reduced frame rates. Conversely, when running at 1080P, most games only require the GPU to operate at approximately 30-50% on average. I've attempted numerous solutions, including testing the card in multiple computer systems—all yielding identical outcomes. I’ve performed a clean driver installation using DDU and installed every available driver version.
My computer configuration:
ROG Strix B450F Gaming
Ryzen 2700/3600 (identical results with both processors, and testing in my brother’s system with a 9700K produced the same findings)
Corsair 650W Power Supply (Additionally, I’ve tried a 1200W unit)
This has been a profoundly disappointing transition coming from a GTX 1070, as I never encountered any difficulties with that card—even as it reached the end of its lifespan.
