I discovered a forgotten USB cable inside the Dompster. When you plug it into the computer and the other end into another device, the device usually gets charged via this cable, but it doesn't show up as a connected device. Only charging occurs.

It was in the dumpster because...dinging...the item is broken.
If you can't see the damage clearly, it's likely hidden inside one of the molded parts.

Occasionally, USB connections contain just power cords, which helps reduce costs since these cables aren't needed for data transmission.
