My current cable was bought online from eBay, and I suspect it might be a lower-quality product.

Why aren't you utilizing a DisplayPort cable? Is the cable you received DVI-D or -I (does that require a 'D' input)? My monitor lacks a DisplayPort connection, but my graphics card (GTX 1050TI) does. Consequently, I bought a DP to DVI-Dual Link adapter, but it wouldn't allow me to reach 144Hz at a reduced resolution, so I decided not to pursue that option. I'm now hoping the problem lies with the cable itself and will simply purchase a replacement.
