I recently acquired a DVI Dual-Link cable to connect my new 144Hz BenQ monitor. However, when selecting the 144Hz refresh rate in the monitor’s settings, it significantly reduces the available resolution. Am I required to install specific drivers on my computer to enable this higher refresh rate? Additionally, when attempting to switch to 144Hz, the monitor displays a notification stating "this cable is incompatible with 144Hz; please use the original cable supplied with the monitor." This suggests the cable may be faulty. If so, could you provide a link to a recommended DVI Dual-Link cable that I can purchase in a physical store? My current cable was bought online from eBay, and I suspect it might be a lower-quality product.

Review paragraph 4.5.1 and determine if it provides assistance: What display resolution are you utilizing? It appears these adapters primarily work with 1080p.

Could you explain why a DisplayPort cable isn't recommended? Is the cable you possess DVI-D or -I (do you believe it requires a ‘D’)?

The display's method for determining cable health is limited to observing whether a signal passes through. When the screen explicitly states that the cable cannot handle the specified resolution and refresh rate, it indicates a significant issue, potentially due to it not being dual-link or containing damaged pathways. Utilizing a multimeter, one can assess complete connection continuity across the 24 DVI-D contacts.

J_E_D_70:
Why aren't you utilizing a DisplayPort cable? Is the cable you received DVI-D or -I (does that require a 'D' input)? My monitor lacks a DisplayPort connection, but my graphics card (GTX 1050TI) does. Consequently, I bought a DP to DVI-Dual Link adapter, but it wouldn't allow me to reach 144Hz at a reduced resolution, so I decided not to pursue that option. I'm now hoping the problem lies with the cable itself and will simply purchase a replacement.

A display device cannot reliably determine if a cable is functioning correctly without observing a signal. If the screen explicitly states that a particular resolution and refresh rate combination is not compatible, it strongly suggests an issue with the cable—potentially because it isn’t dual-link or contains damaged pathways. You could use a multimeter to test for complete electrical connection between the pins of a 24-pin DVI-D cable.

I am confident that this monitor is capable of displaying at 144Hz, so I believe the problem lies within the cable itself. My research on my graphics card indicates that it supports a 144Hz refresh rate, though I was uncertain whether any specific driver adjustments were required for the monitor.

Review the fourth section, subsection 1, and evaluate whether that information provides assistance. Consult this link: What display resolution are you utilizing? It appears these adapters are primarily compatible with 1080p.
