I’m struggling to understand what’s going on. I thought it might be related to the GPU, but I wanted to check if others had similar troubles. My setup includes a 5700 XT with HDMI and three DP ports. I connected everything to 3 monitors—two 1080P and one 800x600—and noticed the issue started after DP 3 stopped working at full resolution. The OS no longer labeled devices clearly, showing generic names instead. Later, DP-2 and DP-1 followed suit. I suspected it was caused by changes in my Arch OS; I tried booting into Windows to confirm. In Windows 10, the 800x600 displays disappeared entirely. I noticed the cables felt warm at their ends. I bought new DP-to-HDMI cables from another brand, but they still failed. Updating BIOS and MSI drivers didn’t help. Recently, I got cheap HP monitors with Display Port ports; connecting them to the GPU gave 1080P output over a DP cable. So the original card still functions on all ports. Using the DP-to-HDMI cables (both new and old) with the same monitors still only produced 800x600. I’ve also tried using VFIO passthrough on different VMs, but the problem persisted. As long as a DP cable is connected to any of the three DP outputs, it keeps showing 800x600. I’ve tested all six models I’ve owned and all three PCIe slots, with or without a riser. Regular DP cables work fine, but HDMI-to-DP cables always limited me. It seems unlikely an OS or driver issue is involved; this appears to be a hardware limitation. Have I overlooked something? Any suggestions could help? Does it look like the card itself is having trouble?
