Fix AdviceFirst RAM slot issue with ECS H55H-M V1.1
So I have an old secondary setup with a very old motherboard. I wanted to upgrade from 4GB RAM DDR3 (1x4 @ 1333MHz) to 8GB RAM (2x4). I got matching RAM that matched the speed and everything else. But whenever I try to put a memory module in the first slot (the one closest to the CPU), the computer won’t let it in. The other RAM sticks work fine, but only boots if the first slot isn’t filled. I cleaned the slot, checked it physically, reinserted the CPU, looked for bent pins or missing contacts (none found), tried a different power supply, changed BIOS settings, reset it all—nothing helped.
If I boot into BIOS by putting one stick in the second slot (the working one), then put the RAM in the first slot without exiting BIOS and saving changes, the system says DDR3 dual channel and boots into Windows. CPU-Z shows two installed modules, HWInfo gives details for both, but Windows only shows 4GB. Restarting after all these steps still doesn’t work.
What should I do? Is the CPU memory controller damaged or is it just the motherboard slot?
Apologies if this isn’t the right forum post for this issue.
verify the model name on the Samsung 1333MHz modules
inspect the CPU socket pins on the motherboard for any bends
have you recently replaced the CMOS battery?
if the BIOS is current, it should be fine
