Hello everyone! After spending 11 years with my computer, I finally decided to upgrade it. Now it doesn’t boot properly and keeps giving me those 5 beeps during startup. I found a used mainboard, CPU, and RAM on eBay (all said they worked) plus a new PCI SSD from a local shop, and I thought I could keep the rest as-is. Everything functioned well before, but after installing these parts it stopped working.

Issues observed:
- 5 beeps every 10–20 seconds when turning on the machine.
- No display, no startup, no boot.
- All fans spin and all lights (USB devices, etc.) light up.
- Disk LED flashes briefly then turns off.
- Sometimes the PC restarts after the beeps, but usually it stays on and idles.

Old setup: Intel i5-3570 ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP (Socket 1155), 16GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance LP Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 580, 8GB be quiet! Pure Power L8 530W Bronze+ be quiet! Dark Rock Advanced C1 Samsung 860 Evo 500GB

Upgraded parts:
- Used Intel i5-10400F (Gigabyte Z590M Gaming X, Socket 1200, 32GB DDR4-3200 Corsair Vengeance LPX)
- New SSD from local store
- Old SSD installed with Windows

Description of the problem:
- Occasional 5 beeps after startup.
- No video or boot.
- Fans run continuously and all peripherals activate.
- Disk LED lights up briefly then stays off.
- Occasionally the PC restarts after the beeps, but often it just stays on.

What I tried:
- Reinstalled CPU – same issue.
- Used different cables for monitor connections (DP, HDMI, VGA).
- Removed and reconnected GPU – still no fix.
- Disconnected RAM and tried other slots.
- Cleared CMOS with jumper.
- Removed battery for 20 minutes.
- Reinserted all cables – still same problem.
- Placed unformatted, empty PCI SSD.
- Installed recovery drive with Windows.
- Tried USB flashing on GPU while off.

What I can’t try:
- Test CPU elsewhere (no one knows this socket).
- Test mainboard with another CPU.
- Use onboard graphics since the i5-10400F lacks them.
- Check BIOS version or possible corruption.
- Get more detailed error codes with a multimeter or diagnostic card.

My thoughts:
- The CPU might be faulty.
- The mainboard could be incompatible.
- BIOS settings or corruption might be the cause.
- There may be an incompatibility between my components.

What I could do:
- Rebuild the old PC and update the graphics card BIOS.
- Get a multimeter for the PSU.
- Purchase a diagnostic card for clearer error messages.

I’m a student on a tight budget, so I prefer used gear. I want to rule out every other possibility before seeking help. Thanks!

Hello, the five beeps during startup indicate a processor failure. It might mean the used CPU had problems before purchase.

That might be possible, though it seems "gigabyte" has several problems linked to that code. *Edit: reference found on Reddit threat*

Have you considered getting feedback on this idea? Would investing around 20$ be a good choice for these cards, considering the price in Europe?

Would you like to try a different GPU for testing? It seems like it might be the CPU, motherboard, or GPU itself.

Hey @bananabreadwithwalnuts ! Did you discover a fix for your issue? I have a very similar situation. My system is brand new (about a year old) and comes with a Gigabyte motherboard. Starting yesterday, the PC won't boot at all—same problems as yours (lights up but doesn’t respond, 5 long beeps from DRAM). I’ve already run the same tests you did (checking RAM, GC, etc.). Before returning the PC to SAV, did you come across anything or a cause for the problem? It’s quite unusual for a brand new setup without changes.

I'm facing the same issue... I sent it to tech once and fixed it without knowing where it came from. Later, about five months later, it triggered again—this time it worked for me.
