Hello, I'm feeling uncertain about what upgrades to make at the moment. Current specs include an MSI B360-A Pro mainboard, Intel Core i7-9700KF processor, G.Skill Aegis 16GB RAM, and a 2x8 configuration. The system runs at 2666Mhz with an RTX 3060 12Gb SSD. My setup supports 1440P at 180Hz and I enjoy playing shooters but also want to enjoy story games in full resolution. For example, Apex Legends runs smoothly at 180fps in 1080P unless settings are high. I suspect my GPU might not handle 1440P at high FPS, which is what people say online. My question is whether it's better to upgrade the GPU to something like a 4070TI or switch to a different platform—like an i7-13700K, Z790 board, 5600Mhz RAM, and keep the RTX 3060 for a while? I believe the processor becomes less critical at higher resolutions, but I'm unsure if my 5-year-old CPU is still sufficient for a 4070TI, maybe even a 4080. I often play on large 4K TVs, which is why I mentioned the 4080.

I had a [email protected] all-core overclock with a 4080. I’d suggest moving to 13700k or a 7600-7700/x from AMD. That 9900k just couldn’t keep up with my 4080—it caused stuttering and low frame rates. Switching to a 7700x gave a noticeable improvement in average FPS and eliminated the stutters completely.

It's great that the game runs quickly. You should see improved performance on your 3060 with the new platform, even if you don't notice many stutters.

The 9700k and 3060 complement each other nicely. You probably won’t notice a big jump in max framerate, just a slight improvement. A more recent CPU will help the 3060 reach its full potential. Do you have a budget in mind or a specific upgrade in mind?

You have between 1000 and 1200€ to spend. The biggest hassle right now is needing to play Apex in low quality to achieve full 180Hz, and the 4070 isn’t worth it. Thanks!

Completely clear! That’s why I purchased a 4080 and put in my own effort. What PSU do you have? And what kind of CPU cooler are you using? Things can be repurposed.

That's a great setup! A 600W Be Quiet system Power 9 was definitely sufficient for 2018.

Really sorry, looks like I should upgrade too. I’ve got a Dark Rock 2 right now.

600w meets the requirements for a 4070, drawing only about 200w. A setup like this would provide a significant improvement. You can use the same PSU and case. The 7600 includes a cooler, but you're free to choose another if preferred. Dark Rock 2 should work well with it. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BZdT6r These benchmarks show the 7600 handles top CPUs smoothly at 1080p and 1440p, even with a 4090. This is just a recommendation.
