This is my first attempt at overclocking. I'm trying to determine the safe maximum temperature. I've seen readings between 72 and 98 degrees Celsius online. I began at 3.4GHz and achieved stability around 5.0GHz. My initial temperatures on the four-core benchmark were 58, 59, 59, and 57°C. Current readings are 74, 78, 79, and 75°C at full load. System specifications below.

i5 2500K (Sandy Bridge)
Asus p8z68-v
Corsair closed loop water cooling... (memory)
Geforce GTX 1060 6Gb
Windows 10 64bit

Core Temp 1.16 provides Min, Max, and per-core temperatures along with the percentage load for each core. Based on the information, temps between 74-79°C indicate it's running a bit high. The article suggests staying under 85°C, so if idle temps are around 35°C, normal loads at about 65°C, and during Cinebench R20 at full load the max reaches 74-79°C, I'm questioning whether I'm near the limit or if I should lower the load a bit. For my OC, I didn't adjust voltages myself but let the motherboard manage them. My native speed is 3.3GHz and I've set the multiplier to 49 for 4.9GHz.

Cinebench R20 may not accurately assess thermal limits. Try Prime95 with a small FFT (no AVX) for over 30 minutes to observe temperature changes.

Can you run C20 continuously, or is it not worth trying?
