First PC arrived... Is the system back online?
I’ve shared thoughts on Socom before thinking it was over. It’s been five years since the community lost its spark, which has been tough for many of us. Personally, I still consider it one of the top games of its era, and I’d still rank it among the best made for the gaming scene—not just for the whole series. Fire team, thank you for your work; these two titles stand out as the strongest. After David Sears left, things took a downturn, and Zipper had to shut down due to poor sales and server issues. Five years later, in 2014, we got Socom back with a new version called H-Hour. Since Sony keeps using the name, they were able to rebrand it properly. Hopefully, David Sears and other team members are returning soon. They aim to release it for PC first, then PS4, and it will be funded mainly through Kickstarter so far. I’m curious how you feel about this remake—would you play it? Why or why not? I thought this would make a fascinating discussion topic.
Hey, cool to see this game mentioned. Socom 2 is the reason why I am a gamer. While I'm excited to get my first build up and running for many reasons, H-Hour planted the seed of switching to PC for me. I've been following this game and I am a backer. The Beta testing starts in a couple of weeks, can't wait. While this isn't a gameplay video, here is a fly through of the latest map:
Socom 2 online was really great! I owned a PS2 and played it nonstop during the summer it launched. With the mic and dial-up internet, everything was awesome!! Those days are missed, when I had no work and no kids to worry about, and I could play for hours on end.
The Socom 2 days stand out uniquely. Despite the high-end games and cutting-edge technology, nothing rivals that kind of competitive spirit. I believe H-Hour can deliver on its promise as they face significant challenges ahead. The game is fast, strategic, team-oriented, and in third person, challenging players to think critically and hone their abilities. It’s unmatched. I still enjoy playing Socom 2 online through Xlink occasionally.
I'm really excited to see this come to life! Back in my day, I was among the top 100 players on Socom 3, especially if we talk about serious competition outside clan play. I probably would’ve become a pro e-sports star by now! I really enjoyed both Socom 2 and 3 equally. The first Socom on PS3 was quite rough at launch, but after several patches it turned into a solid experience, which is why I decided to upgrade my console. Then they dropped Socom 4—so disappointing! It felt like a massive letdown every time I played it...
