First attempt at 8700k overclock
Great progress here. Found the optimal setting around 4.9 at 1.30V, which translates to about 1.28V under stress. Package temps hit a peak of 85°C, settling near 77-81°C. Without FPU stress, it drops to 65-70°C. In-game I’d aim for 65 max. It’s odd I can hit 4.9 at 1.3 but not 5.0 until 1.4+ unless we add another tenth. Seems like a big jump from 100 MHz isn’t unusual, but it’s interesting how much more power is needed. Thanks for the insights!
hello everyone, i’m facing an issue here. I own an 8700k with a clock speed of 4.8 on an ASRock Extreme4. The CPU just restarted, and I can’t run Prime95 Small FTT. When the voltage drops to about 1.385V, the mouse freezes every second or the screen goes black and then comes back. No graphics card has been installed yet. These temperatures seem really high—if I run a standard workload it reaches around 87°C. I’m using 32GB of G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series RAM (2 x 8GB, 288-pin DDR4 SDRAM, 3600 MHz). I suspect one pin might be bent after realignment, but nothing too extreme. I plan to replace the Noctua chomomax because I had a bit of paste left over, though the temperature stayed similar with more paste. Are these temperatures normal? If I lower the voltage, the PC freezes again.
