1. When stress testing, should I mark additional boxes? In real life I mostly play games, but I do some homework too. My idea is that the FPU test matters mainly for those using AVX instructions, right?
2. Are there other BIOS settings I should tweak to boost performance? Should multi-core enhancement be enabled, for example?
3. Should I try pushing the clock speeds up to 5.1 or 5.2? I know it won’t really help in everyday use, but jumping from 4.7 to 5.0 didn’t make much difference either. Would it be worth going the extra mile?

Any other details you’d like to share would be great! By the way, my case is H700i—there’s a fourth LL120 at the rear exhaust, plus a stock NZXT 120mm fan on top, and two 120mm HD RGB fans at the front. The H150i is at the front as an intake, with push/pull mode.

During stress tests with AIDA64, I run CPU, FPU, and cache simultaneously. The FPU is very demanding in terms of heat, so maintaining temperatures below 90°C during FPU testing will prevent overheating even under regular loads.

Well if you're interested, I usually don't spend much time on any CPU since it doesn't really help much for me. My older CPUs aren't great because they're outdated. The newer ones seem to perform well at around 5.0 or 4.5. That means lower voltage, less heat, and quieter operation—especially when it's running at over 90% most of the time.

we share the same motherboard and processor, but mine handles 5.0ghz at 1.28v and 5.1ghz at 1.35v. currently i’m running it at 4.8ghz and 1.2v because the extra heat and noise aren’t worth the minimal gains. in gaming i’m completely GPU-bound (1080ti/1440p/high refresh), so i’ll keep the performance drop for a few years if needed. in the BIOS there are a few options—like boosting max current distribution to 140% (this matters)—but i don’t remember the rest. overall, stick with 4.8ghz and see what voltage you can safely use until the CPU ages.

Is the FPU test still necessary? Also, I'm seeing BSOD during stress testing for FPU and wondering if higher voltage would help.

Essentially the same setup here. I can achieve 5GHz at 1.27v, 5.1GHz at 1.3v, plus 4.8GHz around 1.2v for lower heat and noise. i7 8700K with ASUS Z370-G Wi-Fi AC.

Returned to the setup, applied the 5G profile so the operating condition matched, adjusted internal power controls, and lowered the voltage to 1.33. I'm experiencing peak temperatures around 90°C, but AIDA isn't showing any throttling. I'll test further adjustments like 1.32 to determine the optimal setting. It seems the current value was the limiting factor, not the voltage.

It suggests the system isn't completely stable, but it might work okay for casual use. If you mainly play games and don’t experience crashes, it could be acceptable. For serious tasks or when you need data safety, stability becomes more important.

That 1.3V 4.9GHz clock reaches a maximum temperature of 78°C on the CPU, including FPU strain. Going up to 5GHz pushes it into unsafe territory and causes it to fail at 94°C. I’d skip 5GHz—probably the optimal setting is 4.9, which seems sufficient. It feels like a bit of luck with the chips.
