Updated the ASUS RT-AX86U firmware to version 3.0.0.4.388.22525. Internet went down. Asus interface indicated an Ethernet cable missing between router and modem (Virgin Media Super Hub 3) or DHCP issues. Reset everything but still no connection. Performed factory reset on the router, still no internet. Restarted to version 3.0.0.4.388.22068, which worked instantly. Tried updating again but lost connection. Performed another factory reset. Internet restored immediately. Believe this setup with ASUS RT-AX86U and Virgin SuperHub 3 may not need the latest firmware!

I upgraded my ASUS RT-AX88U to firmware 3.0.0.4.388.22525 recently. After that change, I haven't noticed any clear improvements or problems, unless it's been running for a while and trends become apparent. I'm noticing some Wi-Fi issues with the 6 GHz band, especially when connecting to devices like the one on WIFI6. The connection stays up but doesn't deliver full data speeds, and devices occasionally report losing internet temporarily before recovering. Overall, speeds feel a bit slower than usual, and it takes longer to reach peak performance when checking client transmission rates. It seems firmware updates might have affected stability for some users. Others seem to be experiencing similar problems with this version. I've also tried reverting back to the earlier 3.0.0.4.388.22237 release for now. Also, my Virgin Media setup with the Superhub4 on a 1GB plan is working as expected.

Generally, I suggest opting for AsusWRT Merlin rather than the standard AsusWRT firmware. Merlin also provides access to Diversion (for router adblocking) and Skynet (an extension for the firewall).
