Firefox OS
Firefox OS
Considering Firefox OS, it seems like a budget-friendly option targeting basic smartphone needs. A device priced around £30-40 could offer essential features like phone calls, texting, and simple web browsing. Whether people use it depends on its performance and usability. The pros might include lightweight design and open-source flexibility, while cons could involve limited app support and slower updates. Overall, it’s a practical choice for those seeking affordability without advanced capabilities.
It seems you're suggesting a Windows phone might be a better option.
I don’t care about closed-source Microsoft products. I’m moving away from Windows right now.
I received one model. It currently supports FFOS 1.3, but I plan to upgrade to version 2.1 soon. Right now it performs well overall, especially for WLAN, GPS, mobile internet, and camera functions are straightforward. Importing contacts was simple, most tasks match what other smartphones can do, though there are a few downsides: the unlock button sometimes doesn’t respond, I have to tap it 3–4 times to turn on the display, the WLAN stays off when I try to enable it through some apps, copying text or numbers isn’t possible, the GPS range is limited and it takes time for the camera to locate me, and images aren’t very sharp. Battery life lasts around five days, mainly due to WLAN usage. Even with all the issues listed, I’m fairly satisfied. I’m hoping these problems will improve after the FFOS 2.1 update.
I installed the first version of ZTE Open on my device using a complex method since only 1.3 was officially available. I won’t be getting the latest FFOS updates because ZTE keeps releasing newer phones and neglecting older ones. The phone still functions properly for basic tasks like calling, texting, and browsing the internet. GPS isn’t working at all, which is the main issue. It still serves as a backup in that regard.
