Finding the simplest and most secure method to update your BIOS.
Hello, I have numerous software configurations on my Windows 10 PC and am experiencing audio latency and dropouts with a RME UFX+ interface. I haven’t tried updating the BIOS yet. Does this mean I need to reinstall Windows? What’s the most reliable and simple approach? I’ve found many tutorials online, so I’m looking for expert advice. My motherboard is an ASUS Maximus ix Hero Z270. Thank you very much.
You don't have to reinstall Windows:
- Get the necessary BIOS from the Asus website for your motherboard (check if you need to extract it from an archive, it's safer to copy the contents)
- Transfer it to a USB flash drive
- Insert the drive into the motherboard
- Restart the PC and boot into BIOS
- Use EZFlash to select the USB drive in the storage list
- Find your BIOS file and choose the .zip/bios version, then follow the installation steps
- Keep the PC running during installation; avoid shutting it down
- If the update causes instability, try using an older BIOS version
- It might help to back up your current BIOS before updating.
Thank you! I saw that there are possibilities to compromise the system, but how common are those risks? I just want to avoid having to restart everything and rely on backups.
It seems the most recent version available for download is from 2017.
