Find your old Vista product key again.
Your PC is running Windows 8.1, and you're trying to recover a product key from an older version. Since the Vista Home Premium drive failed during a boot attempt, you might want to explore options like checking backup copies, using a recovery tool, or contacting Microsoft support for guidance. There could be ways to retrieve the key even if the system is no longer active. Don’t lose hope—there are methods available.
It was originally built with Vista installed. A few components have been updated (new GPU, SSD added, different RAM, same motherboard and CPU), but none of the hardware altered its value. The key isn’t worthless—it was my dad’s before I took it, so it still holds significance.
It doesn’t match the original packaging it arrived in. The PC purchased from the store came with Vista Basic. When bought elsewhere, it was upgraded to Home Premium and no label was added to the old case, I’m not sure about that.
If the windows is working (sorry, I didn’t quite get it), try a program named siw – it can recognize the keys.
