You can try using your Windows 8 CD with your friend's key for Windows 8.1 Pro. Insert the CD into the reader and enter the code when prompted. It should work, but ensure the installation media matches the version requirements.

You could simply use a USB flash drive and install the Windows 8.1 Pro ISO. Let me know if you'd like assistance with that.

Contrary to what some say, Normal and Pro keys are different. They won’t work together, so you won’t be able to use them. Also, you can’t mix Windows 8.1 keys with a Windows 8 installation. I don’t understand why Microsoft made this decision. If you’re using a non-Pro key during a Pro setup, you’re locked out and nothing can be done about it.
