Find Wi-Fi coverage and extend signals effectively.
So I have this client that has their home, a barn, and then another barn further away. They are trying to get wifi out in that barn. The home router is on the closest side of the house as to the first barn. Netgear Nighthawk ac1750 The 1st barn is about 150 feet or so from the house router. Netgear 1200 wifi extender near the front door. The second barn is a little further back, but about 300 feet away maybe from the house. Netgear 1200 wifi extender above the horse stall. I went over their originally to get wifi out to the second barn and got it working, but now it will switch back and forward from being connected and not connected. Kinda of a crummy picture, but this is kinda what it looks like. Bottom rectangle is the house, red is the main router. Blue are windows. Rectangle in the middle is the first barn with the first extender. Blue is a window. Partial rectangle on the top is the 2nd barn with the second extender with blue being the horse stall door window. They do not want to dig up the ground and run an ethernet cable. example names. not actual Router SSID : mainwifi-2g , mainwifi-5g 1st extender SSID : mainwifi-2g_ext , mainwifi-5g_ext Connects to the main router via wifi 2nd extender SSID : mainwifi2-g_ext2 , mainwifi-5g_ext2 Connects to 1st extender via wifi
Start with a tool to measure the Wi-Fi signal. This helps confirm whether changes are effective. Most antennas work in all directions, so you can boost strength by directing the beam. Options include directional antennas, Yagi units, or even a "cantenna." Unfortunately, your router lacks external antenna support. You might need to swap it for one that allows external mounting, or use a directional antenna instead. Try adjusting the antennas first—your app could give better results. Keep in mind, signal strength can vary with weather conditions. Good luck!
