Hey there! Just started tweaking my saved game files on Ubuntu, but someone’s got a good point—where did Steam think it stored my game data??

Steam is located in your home directory. You must enable showing hidden files to view it. Edited May 15, 2019 by firelighter487 (typo)

Thanks! I located the hidden folder with the name ".steam," but the game files remain missing.

Looking closely, do you see any concealed directory within your files folder?

Sorry about my English. I see a folder called "userdata" inside ".steam", but I can't locate the right data file. You know, like when you save your gold or equipment in-game? Thanks! Appreciate it!

all files reside in ~/.steam and Steamapps sits nearby, though some titles still store saved data in the ~/folder even if it's concealed. For instance, Borderlands 2 does this too.

Launch the steam client, select a game, open its properties, then choose open file location. This directs you to the game's executable along with all its assets and required graphics libraries so it functions as on Windows, not just your saved files. Typically, games save their data in appdata on Windows or a .local subfolder under your home directory on Linux. For example, feral games store saved files at ~/.local/share/feral-interactive
