Hi everyone. I recently installed a 9 9900x and a 5070 processor. The main issue I'm facing is with cooling. During gaming, my CPU stays around 80-85°C, which I know isn't a big deal for it. However, I think it might be limited by thermal constraints, as it's running about 20% of the time at full load. I currently have a Noctua NH-U14S and just purchased the DH-15 to check if it's too big for my motherboard—it covers my PCIe slot. My case only fits up to 240mm AIO, and I was considering the Artic Liquid Freezer 3 240 to see if it would improve performance or if I should stick with AIO options.

I had never seen a cooler do that. I assumed all motherboards were the same in that aspect. Have you tried flipping the cooler? (My cooler only fits in one orientation) Updated July 27, 2025 by leclod

The temperatures during gaming seem normal, and CPU usage is likely lower since the workload is being handled by the GPU, which should operate near full capacity.

CPU usage stays low at 20% even though the game can't run many threads. The cooler is okay. Consider lowering the CPU voltage with cooldown.

As @PDifolco said above, most games out there only uses some of the threads. Some uses more than others. Here's my 9800x3D with 360AIO Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, 1440p Me, I think I'd rather buy a good air cooler than a 240 AIO. Like that NH-D15 you bought. Unless it's SFF build or aesthetic matters lot, or somethin That's weird, first I heard about it tbh. You sure you installed it right ?

This processor delivers up to 300 watts with PBO, so for optimal results consider using an AIO.

I adhered to every step in the guide. It could work if I don’t adjust it, though I’m unsure about any potential drawbacks.

I'd also like an air cooler, though with my x870 wifi 6 motherboard, the first PCIe slot is covered when I put in the NH-D15 heatsink.

Offsetting is an optional tweak, so if it's the only choice I have, I'd skip it. According to the manual, on other AM4 CPUs or if there are compatibility concerns (like heat sink clearance), stick with the default setting (0). Edited July 27, 2025 by leclod

I understand. It looks like Gigabyte is behaving oddly and you want to rearrange the positions of the first PCIe and NVMe slots.
