Find ways to boost your i7 6700k's performance.
Hey there! So you've unlocked your 6700k and everything looks good right now. The OC is solid at 4.8 @ 1.32v before the unlock, and you're aiming for 5ghz with XMP enabled. You're thinking about tweaking things to make it more stable at that speed. Maybe adjusting the RAM timings could help, or turning off XMP altogether. Let me know what specs you have handy—I'm here to help!
4.8 could be a good fit for that chip. I have a 4770k but it rarely goes above 4.0 stable. Sometimes you land the silicon prize, other times you don’t.
At 1.5V I’m hoping it includes a custom water cooling system. The better the cooler, the higher your chances. As @Bombastinator mentioned, it really depends on the silicone situation.
With xmp activated and fixed timings, I can boot into Windows and run at 5GHz—just stable enough for a bench. I’m aiming to maximize stability, even though I don’t have deep experience with clock speeds or memory timings. I recall seeing a custom loop that helped me reach 4.9 stability without tweaking anything. It’s been a while since then.
