Find the top air cooler for the i5-3570K with a 4.5/4.7Ghz overclock.
I’m planning to upgrade my Intel i5-3570K to reach around 4.5/4.7Ghz for gaming stability. I’m also thinking about building a future rig by late 2018, so I might want something a bit bigger now to accommodate future upgrades like moving to Coffee Lake. I’m aiming for something that’s future-proof.
Currently looking at these options:
- Intel - Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz
- Gigabyte - Z77X-UD5H
- HyperX Kingstone 8 GB 1600MHZ
- NZXT Phantom 410
I’m evaluating the following models:
Noctua NH-D15
Cryorig R1 Ultimate
be quiet! - Dark Rock 3
I mainly focus on cooling performance, as I expect my fans will already be running at higher speeds. Thanks!
Anandtech evaluated multiple premium air coolers and featured all three mentioned in the review. Check the core temperature chart and select various wattage settings to compare their performance. Greater wattage generally indicates more heat dissipation, clearly highlighting the differences between the models.

Observe that the Be Quiet lags significantly behind the R1 and NH-D15 (the latter two are nearly comparable in price). For me, aesthetics would be the deciding factor. I own an NH-D14 and dislike its color scheme. I ended up painting the fan cowlings. The R1 appears excellent when new, though it is a bit noisier. You mentioned noise isn’t crucial.
