So I’m reaching out for your assistance, hoping to share the complete situation and get the most support possible. I was expecting a smooth upgrade around the holiday season, swapping my Ryzen 5 3600 for a Ryzen 7 5800x on an MSI X470 gaming motherboard. Everything ran smoothly until the events described here began. In my eagerness, I changed the CPU without realizing I needed to update the BIOS. To my disappointment, the system wouldn’t boot at all. I tried reinstalling the BIOS, but it still wouldn’t start. The CPU indicator stayed lit on the motherboard. I re-seated a few times, and around the second attempt, I accidentally bent some pins—probably just a small misalignment. No significant damage, but it didn’t fix things.
I attempted various fixes: clearing CMOS, touching jumper pins with a screwdriver, reseating RAM one at a time, and more. When I removed a RAM stick, I found a tiny wire protruding with no resistance. It might not matter, but I included it for reference. I also tried powering on in single sticks, one by one, but nothing changed. Eventually, after some advice from others, I considered replacing the motherboard entirely.
I bought an MSI B550 Gaming Plus and installed it today. Still, I’m facing the same problem—CPU light flashes briefly before shutting off, followed by a RAM light. I’ve tried everything, from resetting components to using the latest BIOS updates. Even after flashing the BIOS with the correct version for my motherboard, the issue persisted. A friend suggested it might be a power supply fault, but I’m more inclined toward a CPU or RAM problem.
I’m really stuck and would appreciate any guidance you can offer. Thanks in advance.
I made the switch to a new 120mm AIO cooler for my 5800X, thinking it would handle the heat better than the Wraith model that came with my 3600. The pump connects to PUMP_FAN1 and the fan to CPU_FAN1. I replaced the original cheap AIO fan with a newer Noctua model. The pump uses a 3-pin connector, while PUMP_FAN1 is a 4-pin slot—so I aligned it correctly. I’ve double-checked everything and confirmed it works. I’ll share some photos for clarity. Sorry about the dust, but it’s unavoidable.
Sure, I can explain the connection and identify the AIO model. The 3-pin connector on the 4-pin PWM header indicates a standard pump interface. The specific AIO model would depend on the pump's brand and configuration details.
The pump is on the left, and the AIO is an EVGA 120mm Closed Loop Cooler. I think it's the 400-hy-cl11-v1 model. I've attached a photo for reference, though it might not capture the clip precisely. I assure you it’s assembled correctly, but feel free to request another shot if needed.
Consider starting the PC using the original AMD cooler. There seems to be a potential problem with the Pump header connection, and it might not be a recent model. I won’t suggest alternative methods for the Pump cable just yet, as that could be dangerous. Trying the stock cooler first might help avoid further complications.
I connected the AMD cooler and observed the same behavior. (CPU indicator turns on, then off after half a second, followed by RAM indicator.) I checked every RAM stick in each slot. Is there a problem with the BIOS you installed? I noticed only the solid CPU light beforehand.
I suggest beginning with the computer running without RAM modules and/or without the CPU to observe if the motherboard issues any alerts.
Ok so took CPU and RAM out. I have a solid light on the CPU and nothing else. I’m assuming that’s what you meant by a warning message? Also, thanks for sticking it out this far with me. I feel kind of hopeless about it right now but this is really helping.
Checking the 3000 series right now. Observing the CPU indicator and memory status.
