Hello, here are my details: two 8 GB DDR4 modules from Corsair Vengeance LX 3000MHz, paired with the MSI TOMAHAWK MAX motherboard and RYZEN 3100. Many people say RAM runs slower than advertised speeds by default, so I’m wondering if my RAM actually operates below 3000MHz unless I enable XMP at that speed. Would setting FCLK to match 3000MHz help maintain performance? Also, is it best to align XMP with the same frequency for optimal stability? Thanks for your advice!
One if the SPD profiles are used (which will handle the advertised speeds), they will operate when xmp is activated at a specific voltage (generally around 1.35-1.4v) which is entirely secure. The device typically configures the FCLK to match it, potentially resulting in a theoretical setting of 1500.
The JEDEC standard defines the fundamental clock for RAM, typically around 2133Mhz or 2400Mhz. Speeds above this are considered overclocking. XMP refers to an officially recognized configuration of clock rates, delays, and voltages that deliver the claimed performance of the memory. DDR stands for double data rate, meaning a 3000Mhz rating actually translates to about 1500Mhz due to the dual data transfer.
