So. It turns out about two years ago, after I got my own PC, I’ve been running at roughly half the speed of my RAM. In my MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, I’m using 4 x 8 GB Vengeance LPX, which is supposed to hit 3000 MHz. Recently I checked my Task Manager under Memory and saw it sitting at 1500 MHz—half the speed. I managed to adjust the BIOS settings and turned on XMP, which is an Intel feature (though it works on AMD boards too). I was exhausted last night trying to set it up, but there seemed to be two profiles. I chose the second one and before heading to work, verified everything was still the same. I’m currently at work, but if anyone knows what to do next, it would be a huge help. The advice I need would come with a small favor. Expect an update in two years. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, Rzn 5 3600 is my CPU if that’s relevant.

Open CPU-Z and confirm the frequency reads 1500MHz. Your RAM is listed at 3200MHz but shows 1600MHz.

CPU-Z only displays part of the information since RAM is DDR, allowing data to be sent and received twice per cycle. If it reports 1500MHz, with DDR technology it's actually around 3000MHz.

It aims to display only part of the information... somewhat awkward, but fine. Thank you for your help. Hopefully, this won't continue in the future. If QDR becomes extremely popular, some people might be upset about limited speeds, like only 2000 MHz. That would be frustrating. Just talking a bit.

The 3000MHz figure isn't a real number—it's a way to describe performance. It represents 3000 MT/s, which is the data rate, while the actual clock speed is 1500MHz. DDR technology doubles the data transfer per cycle, making the math match. Companies use 3000MHz for easier understanding, even though it's technically an approximation. This is why it's called "effective clockspeed." In short, a 3000MHz RAM has an effective speed of 3000MHz, but its real speed is 1500MHz. Software can show either value depending on the context.
