If that's the situation, proceed with obtaining it. Concerning motherboard options, determine the I/O requirements and select accordingly. Ensure the CPU VRM has a suitable heat sink design.

I understand that, but the 4080 and 4090 are significantly more expensive than a 4070, or at least in my area, the focus of my research is to ensure the CPU matches the GPU's performance needs. Studying the required MOBO is just too much information to handle.

Please focus on meeting your essential needs without worrying about bottlenecks or balancing. Think about the minimum performance required for the games you plan to play today. Remember, the CPU determines the highest FPS, while the GPU handles rendering.

For this round of Nvidia GPUs, they come with a high price tag. They provide significantly better performance compared to the 4070, but the expense makes it less appealing overall. I'd align with others who think the RT is essential; otherwise, the 4070 still performs adequately at 1440p. Not every title requires top-tier graphics, and with features like DLSS 3 and frame generation, the GPU handles most games well.

I get it, I'm just trying to decide if leaping from 5600x to 7700 makes sense, but looking at all the responses, I think it's a good idea.

Are you considering a CPU upgrade in the future? It's likely that Zen 3 chips will become increasingly costly as their availability decreases, and for gamers, the next best option after the 5600X might be the 5800X3D.

I understand your perspective. I believe the target is 7700.

if you reside close to a micro center, they offer a special bundle for the 7700X and a motherboard with additional RAM for just $399 USD.

Sounds good, but I'm not even in the US. Thanks though.

I would suggest you have two platform options available. Choosing an i5 12400 in a B660 mobo now means you can later upgrade to an i7 14700. This is the more affordable path if you opt for DDR4 with the B660. The alternative is selecting a 7700X or 7600 paired with a B650 and DDR5, which offers a smoother upgrade route in 2025 or 2026. With a decent enough motherboard, you could also include PCIe 5.0 support for future upgrades.
